Briggs & Stratton issues inaugural sustainability report
Briggs & Stratton Corporation announced on August 1 the publication of the company’s first sustainability report. This report outlines Briggs & Stratton’s broad range of sustainability efforts and initiatives, which build on its 101-year legacy of social responsibility, community involvement, environmental stewardship and economic performance.
Briggs & Stratton, the world’s largest producer of gasoline engines for outdoor power equipment, possesses a long record of responsible manufacturing. For decades, the company has consistently worked to reduce emissions from its products, and it is committed to minimizing its environmental footprint while maximizing its positive impact on the places where the company does business.
“Briggs & Stratton’s core value has always been to improve the lives of as many people as possible, from our customers to our employees to our communities at large,” said Todd Teske, Briggs & Stratton President & COO. “We embraced green manufacturing long before it became a popular trend, and we are committed to the principles of sustainability across the spectrum.”
This commitment has been the power behind initiatives that not only reduce the company’s impact on the environment, but also encourage employees to do the same. Some of these include:
An enterprise-wide audit of the company’s energy usage by created “Energy Teams,” composed of employees at Briggs & Stratton facilities around the globe.
Reducing company-wide energy use by 14.9-million kilowatt hours over the last two years, saving the company significant dollars. This initiative also reduced the company’s overall greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 5 percent, the equivalent of removing nearly 2,000 cars from America’s roads annually.
An employee clean-up effort where hundreds of volunteer workers to turn a neglected Milwaukee park into a green oasis.
“These initiatives are just a continuation of the way Briggs & Stratton has operated for the last century, and will continue operating in the next,” Teske said.
