Classen unveils PRO HTS20 hydro-drive overseeder

Classen, a Schiller Grounds Care brand of commercial and residential turf care equipment, recently unveiled its PRO HTS20 hydro-drive overseeder. The self-propelled machine features the industry’s tightest blade placement, providing 13 seed rows in a 20-inch swath for a thicker, carpet-like coverage.

“We designed the PRO Hydro-Drive Overseeder to offer a fast return on investment,” said Bruno Quanquin, Classen vice president of sales and marketing. “We incorporated features into the overseeder that contribute to quality results and exceptional efficiency. Plus, it’s easy to maintain, which minimizes downtime.”

The unit’s double-edge double-blade reel spaces the blades a narrow 1.5 inches apart to provide greater than 15 percent more rows of seed than competitive units. Depth can be set in any of 10 settings from 0 inches to 1.625 inches, to attain the proper depth for the seed. This allows for better seed placement to refresh existing turf, establish new grass, or tackle a weedy lawn.

Classen’s PRO overseeder features a 40-pound-capacity floating seed box that follows the contours of the terrain — whether it includes bumps, dips or uneven areas — to ensure consistent seed placement. The floating seed box also locks in place for hill or slope seeding. A seed agitator inside the seed box breaks up seed clumps caused by dew and humidity, allowing seeds to drop from the hopper through the seed box slits.

The HTS20 features a hydrostatic drive, for smooth power flow in forward and reverse. This means less physical strain and enhanced productivity. The 9-hp. Honda engine offers operating speeds as fast as 3-mph forward and 1.5-mph reverse, and the single-lever forward/reverse controls on the handle make it easy to operate. This allows the machine to cover as much as 26,400 square feet per hour.

Like all Classen products, the HTS20 includes features that simplify operation. Its clear seed box cover allows the operator to monitor seed levels and easily determine when refilling is necessary. A seed drop indicator on the front of the seed box lets operators know if the seed slits are open or closed to reduce seed drop waste. To set the unit for the correct seed size and to further minimize seed waste, the PRO HTS20 features a convenient seed dial and onboard instruction chart on the front of the seed box.

The PRO HTS20 is well suited for established turf, as well as new lawns. Turf tread flotation tires provide the traction needed for slope seeding and produce less pressure per square inch than solid rubber tires, reducing soil compaction and tire ruts.

For minimal maintenance and a longer life, the unit’s blade shaft features greasable cast-iron bearings. Additionally, the 13 double-sided blades can be reversed to double the blade life.

The compact overseeder features a foldable handle for easy transport. Plus, it has the ability to self propel in both forward and reverse, making trailer loading and unloading simple.

Classen backs its PRO HTS20 hydro-drive overseeder with a 2-year commercial and rental warranty. The hydro-drive overseeder is part of the Classen PRO line, which consists of equipment with value-added features to boost productivity. The PRO line also includes a new stand-on aerator, a walk-behind aerator, a sod cutter and a turf rake.
