Perkins SmartCap named a 2018 Gold Edison Award Winner

The Edison Awards, celebrating 31 years of honoring the best in innovation and excellence in the development of new products and services, announced that the Perkins SmartCap was voted a Gold Winner for innovation at the April 11 event at The Capitale in New York City.

Being recognized with an Edison Award has become one of the highest accolades a company can receive in the name of innovation and business. The awards are named after Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) whose inventions, new product development methods and innovative achievements literally changed the world, garnered him 1,093 U.S. patents, and made him a household name around the world.

“This is truly a great honor,” said David Nicoll, Perkins marketing director. “I accept this award on behalf of the great Perkins team, with over 85-years’ heritage and our commitment to constantly press forward with innovative breakthroughs that customers come to expect from Perkins.”

The Perkins SmartCap can be used on new and existing Perkins mechanical and electronic engines. Installed simply by replacing the existing oil filler cap, this solution allows end users to connect their mobile device to their engine via the free Perkins My Engine App on their smartphone. The cap monitors the Perkins engine and sends data direct to the app.

“We are watching the popularity of this product grow with each passing day as we meet the needs of our global customers,” said Michael Wright, Perkins general manager – aftermarket. “There is no device like it, the world’s first low cost engine-specific connectivity device. This is a breakthrough step forward in aftermarket for us and we are very proud of the team that made this possible and of this award.”

When combined, the Perkins SmartCap and Perkins My Engine App will give Perkins customers truly useful engine information including:

 Engine running hours

 Engine location

 Service reminders and service log

 Parts book and consumables information

The cap also provides easy access to engine specific information such as build list, series, type, model, the Perkins Platinum Protection indicator and the operation and maintenance manual (OMM). The app, which is already available in English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese, provides instant engine information in key languages around the world; more languages are on the way with scheduled releases in 2018.
