Bill Nelson Scholarship Endowment announces 2018 recipients
The Outdoor Power Equipment Aftermarket Association (OPEAA) announced that the Bill Nelson Scholarship Endowment (BNSE) awarded four scholarships, each in the amount of $2,500. Forty-seven applications were received. Recipients for the 2018 awards are: Morgan Conville, of Midland, N.C.; Luke Herman of Nixa, Mo.; Jack Hoog of Lexington, S.C.; and Brett Hopf of Jasper, Ind.
- Conville is majoring in Spanish and K-12 education at the University of North Carolina-Asheville. Her goal is to be an English-as-a-second-language teacher and to travel abroad to teach English in Spanish-speaking countries. Her father is employed by Husqvarna.
- Herman graduated from Nixa High School this year. He has been accepted into Missouri State University, where he will major in entrepreneurship. Herman’s vision is to create an environment that helps build relationships and bring communities together. His father is employed by Timken.
- Hoog graduated from Lexington High School and plans to go to the University of Dayton to major in engineering. He plays the saxophone, and is a firm believer that music enhances the mind and improves focus and creativity in every aspect of life. His father is employed by Husqvarna.
- Hopf is an undergraduate at Indiana University where he is majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. His dream is to continue to medical school and become a doctor. His mother is employed by Stens.
BNSE is an educational charity designed to advance the academic pursuits of employees and the children of employees who work for member companies of the Outdoor Power Equipment Aftermarket Association. The Endowment is governed by five trustees: Sue Chaney, K-C Sales; Dave Errick, DE Errick, Inc.; Dale Marcell, Blount International; Ed Nelson, Rotary Corporation; and Jim Paugh, NGK Spark Plugs.
