OPEI files letters opposing equipment restrictions in two states

The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) recently filed letters with the Connecticut and Oregon state governments opposing bills that would limit sales or use of outdoor power equipment. Oregon HB 3350 would prohibit sale or use of two-cycle gasoline-powered leaf blowers, and Connecticut HB 6636 would establish stricter emission standards for lawn mowers, snow blowers, and other small engines (powered equipment). 

According to OPEI, “OPEI appreciates the states’ desire to demonstrate environmental stewardship, but is concerned that outdated or unsupported facts may mislead stakeholders’ decisions regarding leaf blower bans, and further emission reductions may result in substantive financial hardships for manufacturers and small-business, such as local dealerships and landscapers, by effectively ‘banning’ gas-powered OPE. The association continues to monitor both bills, and looks forward to further communication with the states’ legislatures.”
