December 2021: Service Leads the Way as Sales Edge Up Overall

In December 2021, OPE dealers saw 2-percent growth in overall sales vs. December 2020, according to the latest numbers provided by Constellation Data Solutions. Service sales led the way, although parts and wholegoods sales were also positive across the U.S.

Overall dealership sales in the U.S., region by region:

• Midwest: 14-percent increase in overall sales in December 2021 vs. the same period in 2020.
• South: 9-percent increase in overall sales.
• Northeast: 9-percent decrease in overall sales in December 2021 vs. December 2020 (ending the region’s string of five consecutive months of positive overall numbers).
• West: 15-pecent decrease in overall sales.

Canadian dealers reported a 6-percent decrease in overall sales in December 2021 vs. December 2020.

Service sales were again strong in December: up 18 percent across the U.S. and up 26 percent in Canada. Every region reported positive service-sales numbers with the exception of the West region (down 3 percent).

Parts sales were up 3 percent in the U.S. overall in December vs. this same time last year (down 5 percent in Canada). The West region reported a 16-percent decrease in parts sales vs 2020.

Wholegoods sales edged up 1 percent overall in the U.S. in December vs. 2020. The Midwest was up 16 percent, while the South was up 9 percent, but these numbers were offset by the Northeast being down 17 percent and the West being down 15 percent.
