Colorado Update: SB 138 Drops Ban on Sales of Gas-Powered Lawn Tools

In Colorado, Senate Bill 138 has been stripped of a provision that would have prohibited the sale or advertising of lawnmowers, leaf blowers and other devices with “small off-road engines” beginning in 2030, in the state’s northern Front Range and other non-attainment air-pollution areas.

Senate Bill 138 would still encourage Coloradans to switch to electric-powered lawn equipment by offering an income tax credit equal to 30 percent of the purchase price for new mowers and blowers bought in tax years 2023 through 2029.

In addition, businesses that use lawn equipment would be eligible for a rebate if they purchase electric alternatives.

This updates our February story.
