May 2022: Some Regions Beginning to Show Improvement

Overall OPE sales in May 2022 were essentially flat for dealers in the U.S. and Canada, although two regions have begun to show improvement, according to the latest numbers provided by Constellation Data Solutions. In the U.S., overall sales were even vs. 2021; in Canada, overall sales were up 1 percent vs. last year.

Two U.S regions showed some improvement in overall dealership sales in May, while two other regions showed declines:

  • Midwest: 4-percent increase in overall sales in May 2022 vs May 2021.
  • South: 1-percent increase in overall sales in May.
  • Northeast: 5-percent decrease in overall sales in May 2022 vs. May 2021.
  • West: 6-percent decrease in overall sales last month.

Wholegoods sales were down 2 percent overall in the U.S. in May vs. this same time last year. Only the Midwest region showed an uptick in wholegoods sales in May – up 2 percent in May.

Parts sales exhibited positive signs – up 7 percent overall in the U.S. and up 3 percent overall in Canada. The Midwest showed the largest increase in May 2022 vs. May 2021, up 11 percent.

Service sales were down 1 percent overall in the U.S. in May, but up 15 percent overall in Canada. The Midwest exhibited the largest increase here, up 10 percent.

Midwest: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin

Northeast: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont

South: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC
