Jordan Slobodnik: 2022 40 Under 40 Award-Winner

Our 2022 40 Under 40 Awards featured young OPE leaders from across the country. In the next couple of weeks, we’ll highlight several of our 2022 award-winners here. Our winners were chosen not only for their numerous accomplishments and individual strengths, but also for their passion for their dealerships and outdoor power equipment – and the promise they bring for the future of our industry. Of course, you can check out the entire 40 Under 40 roster in our May/June issue.

JORDAN SLOBODNIK

Owner/Manager, J & J Small Engine Service – Bellevue, Nebraska

Jordan Slobodnik is “the backbone of our shop,” says a nominator. “He is the one the other employees … ask when they need guidance on what course of action to take. He knows all aspects of the business from sales to accounting to repair.”

Starting out as a mechanic when he was 13 years old, Jordan is now a third-generation owner at this family dealership.

“We’re a family-run company with a great set of core values,” he says. “We strive to treat every customer like they are family and that’s what keeps them coming back year after year. When you come to us, we remember you and honestly care about you. We stay small and sell big.”

Superior planning and forward thinking have been two primary reasons for J & J’s sales success – growing 30 percent from last year: “Over the past two years, I have become much better at forecasting future demand with better inventory and parts planning,” says Jordan. “We have been very well stocked to meet customers’ needs when they need it. With online ordering increasing at an unprecedented rate, our customers know they can drive down and get what they need.”

When it comes to the dealership’s staff, he cares about his employees like they are family and cares about putting everyone in a position to succeed, says a nominator.

“Leadership wears many hats. I take full responsibility for all of my employees, but also give them all the tools to make their own decisions in running our business,” says Jordan. “Staying strong and positive in times of uncertainty in the pandemic … looking to the future and making sure people feel stable in their jobs. They all know that their jobs are secure.”

Jordan “is the reason we will continue to be a player in our industry,” says a nominator. “We are a 37-year-old company and we will be around for many more years with his leadership. He is the reason our kind of shop will succeed while the other will fail. He is the future of our industry.”

J & J’s equipment roster includes Exmark, Toro, Ariens, Stihl, Echo, Kawasaki, Kohler and Briggs & Stratton.
