Dealerships report September 2022 business performance

Nearly 2 out of 3 independent servicing OPE dealership owners described their September 2022 business performance as “Below plan,” according to the latest exclusive data from OPE Business magazine.

The latest 1-question survey to dealership owners asked: “How would you characterize your dealership’s September business performance relative to plan? If you have multiple locations, please provide your overall assessment of September.”

A total of 13% said they were “Above plan” in September, down from 22% who replied the same way about their August business performance. A total of 29% were “On plan” in September, down from 32% who responded the same way in August. Finally, a total of 58% of dealership owners said they were “Below plan” for September, an increase from the 46% who responded the same way in August.

In July, 9% of dealership owners reported being “Above plan” and 30% were “On plan.”

“The good news is the third quarter is in the books and it’s a new start in Q4,” said Dave McMahon, content director at OPE Business. “Going from 46% of dealership owners saying they were ‘Below plan’ in August to 58% in September is certainly a marked jump that mimics what we saw in July.”

The sampling each month is from select dealerships in the U.S. The dealership owners who take the survey vary from month to month. Thanks to the dealers who spent the 5-10 seconds to complet the one-question survey.
