New backpack blower and sprayers, hedge trimmer from Makita

Makita has expanded its ConnectX system with the introduction of a new backpack blower, and has expanded its LXT system with the release of a new hedge trimmer and three backpack sprayers.

ConnectX Brushless Backpack Blower

The company’s new 40V max ConnectX Brushless Backpack Blower (model CBU02Z) has a high blowing force of 22 Newtons for clean-up power equivalent to a 64cc gas-powered blower. It’s a run-time and power solution for professional landscapers seeking to replace gas-powered equipment, notes Makita.

“For landscape pro’s seeking to replace gas equipment, ConnectX is the system that lets them do it,” says Wayne Hart, sr. communications manager, Makita USA. “Whether driven by increased regulation against the use of gas equipment in their region or simply a decision to step away from the hassles of gas, contractors seeking a battery-powered solution can rely on ConnectX for commercial-duty performance and long run time.”

Features on the Brushless Backpack Blower include:

High blowing force, long run time: The new CBU02’s efficient brushless motor delivers a high blowing force of 22 Newtons, and up to 671 CFM and 160 mph. On a single charge of the ConnectX 1,200Wh Portable Backpack Power Supply, it will deliver up to 4 hours of continuous run time. The Portable Backpack Power Supply (model PDC1200A01), sold separately, is a higher-capacity power source with 1,200 watt hours of output; the ConnectX Power Supply is compatible with all ConnectX products.

Low noise, zero emissions: The battery-powered CBU02 has a sound pressure rating of 60 dB(A) (measured per ANSI B 175.2 standard) and zero emissions. It has a tube-mounted variable speed trigger for power and run-time management, and a cruise control setting for more comfortable continuous operation.

ConnectX compatibility: In addition to seamlessly connecting to all ConnectX commercial power equipment, the ConnectX Backpack Power Supply also easily connects with 40V max XGT and 36V (18V X2) mowers, string trimmers, blowers and more.

18V LXT Backpack Sprayer

Makita’s three new 18V LXT Backpack Sprayers are for use with pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and fertilizers.

The new Backpack Sprayer lineup includes:

  • XSU01 –The 18V LXT 2.6 Gallon Backpack Sprayer can spray up to 160 gallons with one 18V LXT 4.0Ah battery (battery sold separately).
  • XSU02 – The18V LXT 4 Gallon Backpack Sprayer can spray up to 165 gallons with one 18V LXT 4.0Ah battery (battery sold separately).

18V LXT Brushless 24-inch Hedge Trimmer

Makita also has released its new Makita 18V LXT Brushless 24-inch Hedge Trimmer (XHU09). It has a 24-inch blade for increased cutting capacity and a Makita-built brushless motor that delivers 4,000 SPM for faster cutting speed when set on the High-Speed option. The 24” dual action, double-sided steel blade can cut thick branches ¾-inches in diameter. Compact and ergonomic at only 38-inches long, the hedge trimmer weighs up to 40-pecent less than gas models, reports Makita. It offers up to 45 minutes of run time with 18V LXT 4.0Ah battery.

“The LXT System gives landscapers more battery options for mowing, cutting, trimming, material handling, clean-ups and more – and now we’ve added three new backpack sprayers,” said Nicole Tougas, associate product manager, outdoor power equipment, Makita USA. “Another new addition is a 24” hedge trimmer with increased cutting capacity in a more compact size. For landscape pros, the expanding LXT System is a total solution.”
